The full 3-day itinerary, day by day, with driving times
At 8:00 am your private tour sets off south, passing pretty Ifrane before a stop in the Azrou cedar forest to watch its wild macaques. You'll carry on toward Merzouga through the palm groves of the Ziz Valley and the fossil town of Erfoud. At the Erg Chebbi dunes you'll climb aboard a camel for the ride to your desert camp, where dinner and a star-filled Sahara night await.
Accommodation: Tawada Desert Camp or similar
It's worth rising early for the beauty of a Sahara sunrise and the deep quiet of the dunes. After breakfast you set out on a full 4x4 tour around Merzouga: the seasonal Lake Sirji, the village of Khamlia where sub-Saharan Gnawa music is played, the old mines known to nomad families, and the great souk town of Rissani. There's time to meet a nomad family and take in the shifting landscape before a second night near the dunes in a small hotel or riad.
Accommodation: Riad Chebbi or similar
Today you leave the desert behind, camera full of memories. The road back to Fes runs through Erfoud, known for its fossils and marble, then follows the sweeping Ziz Valley palm groves up to Midelt — the city of apples — for lunch. From there you cross the cedar forests near Azrou once more, arriving back in Fes around 6 pm for a drop-off at your accommodation.
