Overview

What to expect on this 3-day private round trip from Marrakech

Quick Answer

The classic Marrakech round trip, and the shortest itinerary that reaches the real Sahara rather than a substitute. Day one crosses the High Atlas by the Tizi n'Tichka pass at 2,260 metres, stops at the UNESCO kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, then follows the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs through Ouarzazate and the Rose Valley to sleep in the Dades.

Day two walks the Todra Gorge, where limestone walls rise 300 metres either side of a river, before the land flattens and empties towards Merzouga — camel trek over the dunes at sunset, dinner and drums at the camp, and a sky with no light pollution in any direction. Day three you watch sunrise from a dune and return through the Draa Valley. It is three days of genuine driving and two of the best nights you will have in Morocco. Anyone short on time should read the four-day version first.
